“From the Rain” | Poem by Elizabeth Hansen

Give me a friend or a lover

A brother to tease

Or else give me a paradise

to drift away as I please

With me consume the madness of

The ghost of yesterday

So I may see the moon again

As my final Agnus Dei

What thought might there be of madness

When morning drops its dew?

For madness loves a midnight gloom

But rots away with you—

You who gave me the joy of thought

And the bliss of champagne

You who gave me loneliness

Amidst amethyst rain
